William attended Oregon High School where he earned letters in football and basketball from 1913 to 1915. At Whitewater Bill was a letterman in football, basketball and track. During these years he earned eight letters and Co-captained the baseball team. Upon graduation in 1920, he coached at Whitewater High, then Belvidere, where he coached football, basketball, baseball and track. The school dedicated the 1922 annual to Bill as “Our most efficient coach.” In 1922, Bill entered the clothing business, now owning Belvidere’s largest clothing store. During the ensuing years, Bill has been very active in community affairs. Elected to Hall of Fame 1971.
