Athletics Hall of Fame
NAIA All-American Toby Ackerman graduated from Milwaukee Washington High School in 1968, where he earned five athletic letters, two in football, two in wrestling, and one in trac. In football he received all-city and all-state honors and was voted team captain. In wrestling he was city, regional and sectional heavyweight champion and was voted team captain and most valuable wrestler. In track he was a member of the champion shot-put team in the City Relays. While at UW-Whitewater, where he was an active member of Sigma Tau Gamma fraternity, Toby lettered four years in football and three in wrestling. In football he had the privliege of starting in the first football game ever played in Warhawk Stadium and, in his senior year, he was voted the team captain, the Most Valuable Player and was selected the Most Valuable Player for the WSUC. He was also a one time honorable mention and a two time all-conference defensive tackle. In wrestling he was voted team captain and selected team Most Valuable Player. He was twice the WSUC heavyweight champion. In 1971 he was named a NAIA All-American wrestler and at the same time received the WSUC Scholar-Athlete Award. Toby graduated from UW-Whitewater in 1972 with a Bachelor of Science degree in safety education. He taught driver education and coached football and wrestling at Mukwonagao High School for 15 years. In 1987 he was selected as Mukwonago High School "Teacher of the Year". In 1984 he earned a Master of Science degree in educational administration from UW-Madison. Currently Toby is associate principal and athletic director at Waukesha North High School. He currently coaches youth baseball, soccer and basketball and has developed the Mukwonago area youth wrestling club. Toby resides in Eagle, Wisconsin with his wife, Joyce, and two sons, T.J. and Jake.
