Sue McKeown stood out between the lines and on the sidelines in her UW-Whitewater athletic career. She helped the Warhawk women win the Wisconsin Women’s Intercollegiate Athletic Conference basketball championship in 1980 and 1981 and the softball team capture the league title in 1980. She earned All-WWIAC honors in both sports, second team as a guard and first team at second base. After graduation she moved onto the sidelines, as an assistant coach for UW-W women’s basketball for six years; helping the team to five winning records in those seasons. She was also an assistant softball coach for two years before accepting the head position, promptly directing Whitewater to second place in the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III championship in her first year and the WWIAC championship and another NCAA Division III berth in her second season. McKeown was captain of the track and basketball teams at Janesville (WI) Craig High School, where both teams won conference titles in 1976. McKeown is currently an employment specialist with United Cerebral Palsy and a resident of Milwaukee. Elected to the Hall of Fame in 1997.
