Athletics Hall of Fame
Julie Michel, a 1978 UW-Whitewater graduate, helped lead the 1976 basketball team and the 1978 softball team to Wisconsin Women's Intercollegiate Athletic Conference small school championships. She lettered four years each in basketball and softball, earning second team all-conference honors and Sportswoman of the Year honors in 1977. Michel also lettered three times in volleyball where she earned first team all-conference honors and was named Sportswoman of the Year in 1976. While a student at Racine (WI) St. Catherines High School, Michel earned two letters each in volleyball, basketball and softball. She was named the volleyball team's Most Valuable Player in 1973. Since her graduation, Michel has served as a physical education and health instructor in the Racine Unified School District, where she has earned a 15 years of service award. She has also worked as a freshman volleyball coach at Milton High School in 1984, an assistant volleyball coach at Racine St. Catherines High School in 1984 and spent three years as the varsity volleyball coach at Racine Horlick High School. In addition, Michel has been a Big Sister in the Big Brother/Big Sister program since 1992 and has volunteered int eh Jump Rope for Heart program at Red Apple School since 1981.
