Stoppenbach was a four-time letterwinner in both football and baseball at UW-Whitewater. On the football field, the Warhawks were conference co-champions in 1980 and 1984. Stoppenbach, a quarterback, was named to the all-conference second team in 1983 and 1984.  His 1983 season ranks among the top ten in school record books for completions and yards passing.  In ’84 he helped UW-W tie for the league championship.  Stoppenbach is among the top ten in the UW-W career record books for completions, attempts, completion percentage, and passing yards. He was also named to the 1982 baseball all-conference team as the designated hitter.   While also seeing time at first base,  Stoppenbach helped the '84 Warhawks’ baseball team qualify for the NCAA III championship tournament.  He is still second on the UW-W career record list in walks. Stoppenbach played football, baseball and basketball for Jefferson High School.  On the basketball court he was a three-time letterwinner and scored in double-figures 44 consecutive games. Stoppenbach graduated from UW-W in 1985 with a degree in marketing. He has been employed by Hormel Foods for thirteen years. Stoppenbach currently resides in Westerville, Ohio.
