A graduate of the La Crosse High School in 1917, Ben earned letters as a quarterback in football and a pole vaulter in track. After graduation he enrolled at Whitewater, where he earned letters in basketball, baseball, track, and football. He played end on Doc Schreiber’s last football team in 1917 and was captain of the 1918 football team. Ben later taught and coached at Marshfield, Wisconsin and Fairmont, Minnesota. He left teaching to become an accountant from 1947-1957, then returned to teach at Fairmont H.S. until retirement in 1962. He was active in community activities as an amateur golfer and was honored as one of ten Sports Champions from Marlin County. Elected Hall of Fame 1970.
