Athletics Hall of Fame
Dean is a graduate of Whitewater High School where he won eight letters in football, basketball, and golf. He played guard on the 1949 and 1950 SWANI Football Championship teams and was voted most valuable player in 1950. At UW-Whitewater, Dean was a four year letterman in football. He played guard, was all-conference in 1953, and was captain in 1954. Dean was also a three year letterman in baketball and played on the championship team in 1952, which went to the NAIA tournament and was a four year letterman in golf. He graduated from UW-W in 1955 and was head football and assistant basketball and golf coach in Edgerton, Wisconsin. In 1957 Dean took a position with the George A. Hormel Company, where he is presently Southeast U.S. Division Sales Manager. He is married and the father of three children. He has coached youth football, been a Boy Scout leader, and advisor in Junior Achievement, president and founder of the high school band booster club, active in his church and a member of the national "W" club. Dean is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Hervey Duerst, Whitewater, Wisconsin.
