Kolstad is usually mentioned on Warhawks' fans' lists of best linebackers in the purple and white.  Kolstad was an all-conference pick when UW-W won the conference championship in 1969.  He continued that level of play for two more years, repeating all-league honors while serving as a captain in 1970, then being named UW-W's Most Valuable Player in 1971.  He was a National Association of Intercollegiate Athletic Association all-District 14 pick three times.  Kolstad-led defenses own several school records that have gone unchallenged for thirty years.  The '69 Warhawk defense established a single game mark by limiting UW-Superior to minus 68 yards rushing, and minus 28 yards of overall offense.  The '71 defensive unit allowed just 262 yards rushing, and 1,214 yards total, in a season of ten games. After graduating in December of 1971, the native of Waukesha, Kolstad was drafted in the tenth round of the 1972 draft by the San Diego Chargers.  In 1973 the Chicago Fire of the World Football League brought him in.  After a brief time teaching and coaching in Palmyra (WI), Kolstad moved into the business world.  The former Waukesha (WI) High School graduate, he is currently a sales and business consultant with the Mobil Oil Corporation, residing in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
