J.P. is a graduate of Whitewater High School where he won letters in baseball and basketball. At UW-Whitewater, J.P. was a four year letterman in baseball. He led the WSUC in hitting in 1960-61 with a .465 average which also ranked 13th in the nation. In 1961-62 he was All-American Honorable Mention in baseball. J.P. was also a four year letterman in basketball. He was honorary captain, a member of the WSUC championship team of 1961-62, top scorer on the UW-W team all four years, all time leading scorer with 1,588 points, All-Conference three consecutive years, All-State three consecutive years, top choice on the All-State team his last year, and All-American in the two years 1960-61 and 1961-62. J.P. graduate from UW-W in 1962. In addition to his athletic achievements while at the University, J.P. won the Class B Wisconsin State Left-handed golf championship in 1974. He is currently a member of the Distinguished Athletes Association of the NAIA. J.P. is presently teaching and coaching at Elkhorn High School. Married and the father of three, he is active in his church and in community activities.
