Mary Haugen played a key role in UW-W's rise to national softball prominence.  Haugen pitched for the Warhawk team that won Wisconsin Women's Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (now WIAC) championships in 1984, 1985 and 1986.  Haugen's teams also earned NCAA Division III championship tournament berths all four years.  The 1984 team placed fourth in the national championship, advanced to third place in 1985, and finished fifth nationally in '86.  Haugen earned all-conference honors all four years, and was named NCAA all-region her junior and senior years.  Haugen went 7-4 with a 1.12 earned run average her first year, and went 12-7 with a 1.48 ERA her sophomore year.  She became the dominant pitcher in the league her last two years, going 14-3 with a 1.29 ERA as a junior, followed by 13-4, 0.96 marks in 1986.  Haugen is number one in the UW-W record books with seven shutouts in a season (1986), fewest walks allowed in a season (8 in 1985), and fewest runs allowed in a season (25 in 1986).  Her 0.96 ERA in '86 is third on the all-time list, and she is fourth in career wins (46).  Her career record of 46-18 figures out to a winning percentage of .719. Mary graduated from Middleton High School in 1982.  She is currently a teacher and head softball coach at Saint Mary's Springs High School in Fond du Lac.
