Another outstanding track figure will be placed in the Hall of Fame in the person of John May.  He received letters in track from 1933 to 1937.  He was conference champion in the 100 yard dash for three years and was champion in the 22o yard dash during the entire four years of his competition.  He participated in the Olympic trials in 1936, where he ran against Metcalfe and Owens.  May was the high school scoring champion in the state of Wisconsin while playing football for Burlington high school.  He was recruited to Whitewater by "Chick" Agnew, but after two years of ankle injuries he concentrated on track.  After leaving Whitewater, May attended Syracuse University and received a Master of Business Education degree.  While attending Syracuse he coached in high school in New York.  He then moved to the University of Detroit in 1942.  He has been associated with the University since that time.  From 1947 to 1952 he served as an executive with the Ford Motor Company, and from 1952 to 1958 he was with the Chrysler Motor Company as an executive.  During this period he taught nights at the University of Detroit.  This year May was named as General Superintendent for Parks and Recreation for the city of Detroit.  On of May's recent jobs has been as a member of the Olympic committee for the city of Detroit.
