John was born in Whitewater and attended College High, 1927-1931, earning four letters in basketball, three each in football and baseball, and one in tennis, and serving as captain in football and basketball in 1931. At Whitewater State he won three letters in both football and basketball and was selected Second Team All-Conference quarterback in 1934. He taught and coached at Blanchardville and Sheboygan North High Schools, winning conference basketball championship with an 18-1 record at North in 1943 while being named Coach of the Year. He has a distinguished record in the military and civic service and has been principal of Sheboygan South H.S. since 1952. John received the Distinguished Alumni award from Whitewater State University in 1962. Elected Hall of Fame 1969.
