Gerlach earned all-conference honors in football and baseball for UW-Whitewater.  A four year letterwinner in both sports, he was a first team all-Wisconsin State University Conference as a wide receiver in 1982, and first team all-WSUC South Division as a centerfielder in ‘82 and ‘83.  He was also a captain of both teams his senior year.  He still holds school career records for receptions and yards receiving.  In 1983 he was also the MVP of the UW-W baseball team.  In the school’s baseball record book, Gerlach holds the mark with 17 doubles in 1982, and he is third with 22 stolen bases in a season (1983).  He is tied for fifth in runs scored in a career, and tied for third in career steals.  After graduation he served as an assistant coach for both Warhawk baseball and football while completing a master’s degree at UW-W. Gerlach graduated in 1983 with a bachelor’s in business administration, and he earned a master’s degree in business in 1985.  He came to UW-W from Madison Memorial High School.  Currently a Waukesha resident, he is first vice president of Robert W. Baird in Milwaukee.
