Liepold, a native of Jefferson, is mentioned among the quarterbacking elite at UW-Whitewater.  While helping the team win the 1984 championship and earning all-conference honors twice, Leipold left school with nine school records.  Even now, almost twenty years later, he is first in career passing attempts (647), second in passing yards (4,277), fourth in completions (303), and eighth in touchdowns passing (27).  Leipold still holds season records for completions (145), attempts (306), and yards (2,034) – all set in his senior year in 1986.  Leipold has served as the football recruiting coordinator for the University of Nebraska (Lincoln).  Currently Leipold is the Head Football Coach at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.
