David Balmer, a 1959 graduate, was a member of two Wisconsin State University Conference championship baseball teams, 1957 and 1958, and was a co-captain of the 1959 baseball team. As a pitcher he earned three letters in baseball and while playing offensive guard he earned two letters in football. Balmer did this after his collegiate career was interrupted by a two year stint in the United States Army. David graduated from Watertown High School in 1951 where he earned three letters in baseball, two in football and two in basketball. Balmer, who retired after thirty-three years in public education, was the athletic director at Arrowhead High School in Hartland, Wisconsin from 1966 until his retirement in 1990 and was head football coach from 1961 to 1971, winning three conference titles. he was the 1986 president of the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association and in 1992 became only the 12th individual to receive the NIAAA's Award of Merit which is reserved fro those individuals whose contributions to interscholastic athletics merit special honor.
