Mary (Marshall) Joyce was a member of Warhawk softball teams that perennially challenged for the conference title and national recognition.  UW-W’s catcher, she helped the team win the Southern Division of the WWIAC in 1982, advance to the Association for Intercollegiate

Athletics for Women tournament, and finish seventh in the national competition.  As a sophomore she helped the squad earn a NCAA Division III berth in the school’s first year of affiliation.   As a junior and senior she helped Whitewater win the WWIAC’s East Division, both times advancing to the NCAA III tournament.  As a junior (Marshall) Joyce played on the team that finished fifth nationally, improving that to a third place finish in the national tourney her senior year.  She was Whitewater’s team captain her junior and senior year, and the team’s Sportswoman of the Year in 1983, 1984 and 1985.  She led the team with a .305 batting average her first year, tied for the lead in doubles as a sophomore, and led the team in games played in 1985. A 1986 Whitewater graduate, (Marshall) Joyce is employed at Immaculate Heart of Mary school in Monona (WI), where she is the athletic director, volleyball coach and basketball coach.  She is a resident of Madison.  Joyce (Marshall) graduated from Madison West High School in 1981, following a career where she captained the volleyball, basketball and softball teams.
