Bruce Shattuck competed in three sports for the University.  A 1941 graduate with chemistry major, Shattuck was a member of the basketball, track and football teams.  He played four years, starting his last three years at guard.  He earned all-state honors his junior and senior seasons.  He also competed for the track and field team for four seasons, winning the league high jump championship in 1941, and played football two years.  The 1937 team won the conference championship.  After leaving Whitewater, Shattuck, a Clinton (WI) High School graduate, devoted thirty-seven years to teaching, coaching and administration in the Frederic (WI) school district.  He was principal of the high school from 1958-67.  He returned to teaching and coaching, and added athletic director duties in 1968, positions he held until retirement in 1982.  Shattuck has remained physically active.  He has finished the Kortelopet portion of the American Birkebeiner cross country ski race fifteen times, placing among the top three in his age group eight times.  He is also a regular participant in bicycle races, where he holds three age group records in the Grandview (WI) 50. Shattuck is a resident of Frederic, Wisconsin.
