Jerry Young is an All-American in two sports. He ruled the hurdles in the Wisconsin State University Conference during his four years at UW-Whitewater. Young won a total of ten conference track and field individual titles in the hurdles during his career, including all four hurdles races, tow indoors and tow outdoors, at the 1979 conference championship meets. Young still holds the UW-Whitewater outdoor records for high hurdles and intermediate hurdles. In 1979 he earned All-American honors by placing fifth in the high hurdles at the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics outdoor championship. Young also used his talents on the football field, where he helped the Warhawks win a WSUC title in 1978. He was a first team all-conference wide receiver in 1978 and 1979, and he added Associated Press Small College First Team All-American honors in 1979. After graduation from Whitewater, Young played semi-pro football for three years and was a member of the semi-professional national champion Racine Gladiators in 1983. Young came to UW-Whitewater from Milwaukee (WI) North High School where he lettered in football and track and won the city indoor and outdoor hurdle championships in 1976. A resident of Mequon, Young is a community relations liaison for Wisconsin Electric Power Company. Elected to the Hall of Fame in 1997.
