Rich Murphy quarterbacked the winning Warhawk football teams of the mid-70's.  He contributed to the team's 7-3 mark as a freshman, then helped the team go 6-2-2 as a sophomore.  As the team's number one signalcaller in 1973 and 1974, Murphy led UW-W to back-to-back 8-3 marks, and consecutive championships in the Wisconsin State University Conference.  The Warhawks were 29-11-2 in his four years.  When he graduated in 1976, Murphy held school records for passes attempted and completed (season and career), yards passing in a career, and total offense in a career.  Now, a quarter century later, he is still fifth in career completion percentage (.533), completions (285), and attempts (534).  He is also sixth in the books in career touchdowns passing (28), and ninth in passing yards (3.510).  Murphy's 1974 season ranks as one of the statistical highlights in the history of Warhawk QB's, with his numbers still ninth in attempts (238), completions (129) and touchdowns (14), and tenth in yards passing (1,668).  He was an Honorable Mention All-WSUC pick in 1974 and 1975, to which he added team MVP and Highest Graded Offensive Player honors in '75. A graduate of Saint Leo High School in Chicago, Murphy has been a teacher and coach in the Chicago area for the past twenty-six years.
