Bengy graduated from Pewaukee High School in 1962 where he won 8 letters in football, track and basketball.  He played on two championship teams.  In football, he was selected as co-captain of his team and a member of the All Waukesha County Team in 1961.  While attending UW-Whitewater he earned 4 letters in track and 3 in football.  In track he was a pole vaulter, high jumper, hammer thrower and member of the conference championship team in 1967.  He competed with the Milwaukee Track Club during summers in the decathalon and was a participant in the National A.A.U. All Around Championships in 1965.  In football he was a member of the Conference Championship teams of 1962 and 1966.  He was starting center of the 1966 undefeated Wisconsin State University Conference team which was ranked top small college team in Wisconsin, NAIA District 14 Champions and ranked second nationally.  Bengy graduated from UW-Whitewater in 1968, entered the Navy and was commissioned an Ensign.  He was ordered to duty off Vietnam aboard the U.S.S. Oklahoma City, home-ported in Yokosuka, Japan.  while in Japan Bengy was a player and assistant coach of the base football team for three years, 1969-1971.  He was selected as all league center and his team was Conference Champion in 1971.  In addition, he participated in several championship bowl games throughout the Orient.  Upon completion of his tour of duty in Japan, Bengy returned to civilian life in 1972.  A current member of the Badgerland Striders, Bengy is actively involved in local running events.  He is an employee of American Motors where he hs been a supervisor for the past 10 years.  Bengy and his wife, Jayne, live in Waukesha with their three children, Elizabeth, 12, Melissa, 11, and Ross, 8.
