Allen attended school in Fort Atkinson until 1956 when he transferred to Lake Mills High School from where he graduated in 1958.  In high school he lettered in football, wrestling and track.  He was co-captain and most valuable member of UW-Whitewater's first wrestling team.  He graduated from UW-Whitewater in 1962.  After a year teaching at Richland Center High School, he became head wrestling coach at Mineral Point.  At Mineral Point he developed one of the country's strongest small high school wrestling programs; in 20 years Allen's teams compiled 226 victories against just 22 losses.  They won four consecutive state team championships (1980 to 1983), and 17 conference, 18 regional and 7 sectional championships.  In addition, he has had 74 state qualifiers, 18 individual state champions and 3 college All-Americans.  Allen has served as president of the Wisconsin Wrestling Coaches Association, the Wisconsin Chapter of the United States Wrestling Federation, the Federation of Wisconsin High School Coaches Association and Chairman of the WIAA Wrestling Rules Committee.  He was 1976 Wisconsin High School "Coach of the Year" and is member of the Wisconsin Wrestling Hall of Fame.  Allen also has been president of the Mineral Point Education Association and served on several North Central Association Evaluation Committees of Colleges and Secondary Schools.  He received his Master's Degree at Western Kentucky University and has done post-graduate work at colorado School of Mines.  Allen has been president of Hope Lutheran Church where he teaches adult Bible classes and sings in the choir.  He is married to the former Vivian Dunning and is the fater of three children, Kristi, 16, Bobbyjon, 14, and Jason, 10.
