A West Milwaukee athlete, Paul earned four letters each in football, basketball and swimming. As a Free Stylist, he was State Runner-up from 1930-1932. At Whitewater, Paul started as guard in football four years, earning All-Conference honors in 1935 and 1936. In 1936 he was selected as All-College Swimming Champion. As a senior, Paul helped coach the line for Chick Agnew. After graduation, he taught and coached at Brandon before moving on to the Veterans Administration in 1945, as a Rehabilitation Instructor and Supervisor. In 1953 he joined the Research Division of the Harnischfeger Corporation. Elected to Hall of Fame 1971.
