Jim Winkler was a member of UW-Whitewater men's tennis team from 1983-86. Winkler was the first All-American in UW-Whitewater tennis history along with his doubles partner, UW-Whitewater Hall of Famer Eric Arvold. The duo advanced to the semifinals of the NCAA Division III Championship in 1985-86 – the first and only Warhawks to ever accomplish this feat in program history. Winkler holds the program record for #1 doubles wins in a season (31) and ranks among the top ten in UWW history with a .795-win percentage at #1 doubles and 52 combined singles and doubles wins 1986 (52). At the end of his collegiate career, Winkler held the program's career records for wins at #1 doubles (71) and doubles wins in all flights (95) - marks that rank second in program history nearly 40 years later. His 155 combined singles and doubles wins during his career is sixth in UW-Whitewater history. Winkler was named to the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference All-Time Men's Team as part of the league's Centennial Celebration in 2012. Winkler is a native of Waukesha, Wisconsin and is a graduate of Waukesha North High School.
