Art Holden earned National Association of Intercollegiate Athletic First Team All-District 14 honors three straight years (1968-70) while competing for the Warhawk wrestling team. In 1969 he added the Wisconsin State University Conference championship and NAIA All-American honor, placing sixth in the national championships, to his accomplishments. Holden was the team captain during his junior and senior years and the squad’s Most Valuable Wrestler for here consecutive seasons. After graduating in 1970 Holden continued to compete successfully, traveling with the Athletes in Action team for two seasons, participating in the 1972 Olympic tryouts, finishing third in the 1973 Amateur Athletic Union national freestyle championship and representing the United States in a dual meet versus the Soviet Union in 1973. He has also served as the AAU Junior Olympic chairman, as team leader for the Wisconsin Junior Olympic team that toured Japan in 1978. He taught and coached at Whitewater High School for one year and was the coach at Salem (WI) High School for ten years. Holden is currently teaching science in Quito, Ecuador. Elected to the Hall of Fame in 1991.
