Athletics Hall of Fame
Mary Ann Riccio is being awarded the Distinguished Service Award of the Whitewater Athletic Hall of Fame. This award is granted to persons who have significantly contributed to the success of the athletic programs of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. Ms. Riccio becomes the eighth recipient of this award. Riccio served the university for 25 years until her retirement in 1990. She served as a member of the department of Health, Physical Education and Recreation having developed and taught a variety of courses in Team Sports and Elementary Physical Education and, upon retirement, earned Assistant Professor Emeritus. Riccio was the first coach of women's intercollegiate basketball and an early coach of intercollegiate field hockey. She was actively involved as a member of the Constitution Writing Committee of the Wisconsin Women's Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and the first Supervisor of Officials in volleyball, basketball and softball which earned her the Distinguished Service Award form the WWIAC. Riccio also served as the Intramural Sports Director for seven years, while serving on many department, college and university committees.
