John Martinek was a Warhawk quarterback who could throw an extremely accurate long pass or a solid block and who demanded perfection of himself and his teammates. In 1962 he was selected all-conference while leading the Warhawks to the Wisconsin State University Conference championship. Martinek went on to letter in football for three years and in 1964 he was the team's co-captain and Most Valuable Player. At Cudahy High School John earned three letters in football, receiving all-conference honors, two each in basketball, baseball and track and one in tennis. Since his graduation from UW-Whitewater in 1965, Martinek has earned a Ph.D. in anatomy from Tulan University, in 1969, and is currently a faculty member of the Mathematics/Science Department at Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
