Athletics Hall of Fame
A resident of Milwaukee, Earl Thompson was an outstanding football player white at Whitewater. Thompson was a member of the 1924, 1925 and 1926 teams. In his final year of competition he was named as center for the all-conference squad. Following graduation from college in 1927, he began teaching at Shawano as a business education teacher and coach. After one year of teaching he joined the staff of Eau Claire Book and Stationery. He was with that firm for three years, and then joined the staff of South-Western Publishing Company as area representative. During his work with the firm for the past 35 years, he has been instrumental in selling the "Whitewater Story" to the many high schools in the state. For his work in the field of business publication, he was awarded an honorary membership in Pi Omega Pi, the honorary scholastic fraternity in business education. The award was made in 1958. He has also served as president of the Wisconsin Bookmen's Association.
