Coach Foster graduated from Port Washington High School where he won 10 letters in cross country, track, football and basketball. He placed in the pole vault in the state track meet all four years and played forward on the 1936 State Class B Championship Basketball team. At UW-Platteville Rex competed in football and track. After graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Education degree, Rex taught and coached at Cuba City, Boscobel and Madison East High Schools. At Boscobel his football teams of 1954 and 1955 were undefeated and the 1954 team was the highest scoring team in the state and defeated all teams in the conference by at least 4 touchdowns. In 1957 Rex joined the faculty at UW-Whitewater as a member of the Department of Mathematics. Rex was assistant football coach for 25 years, during which time the team won 10 Wisconsin State University Conference championships and finished in second place in the NAIA championship in 1966. Rex was head track coach for the men’s program for 26 years and for the women’s program for 9 years. During this time Rex produced a total of 17 All-Americans and his men’s teams of 1965 and 1966 won Wisconsin State University Conference championships. Rex started the cross country program in 1959 and designed the present outdoor track facility on campus. In the spring of 1985, Rex retired with the rank of Associate Professor of Mathematics Emeritus. Rex and Germaine reside in Whitewater and they have five children, David Deanna, Sandra, Suzanne and Syd. Elected into the Hall of Fame in 1985.
