Gary Ruch was a member of the UW-Whitewater men's basketball and baseball teams between 1982-87. He was a member of Warhawks' 1983 team, which placed fourth in NCAA Division III, and the 1984 team, which won the program's first-ever national championship. Ruch was a three-time all-conference selection, including first team honors following the 1985-86 season. He scored 912 points for his career and averaged 13.2 points per game over his last two years. A 1985-86 captain, Ruch ranks among the top 25 in school history in games played (105, T-17th), field goals made (393, 21st), field goals attempted (806, T-22nd) and assists (175, 25th). In baseball, he was tabbed honorable mention all-conference after leading the 1987 team in earned run average, runs allowed (minimum 25 innings) and earned runs allowed (minimum 25 innings).
