Tom Hendron graduated from East High School in Rockford, Illinois in 1962 where he lettered in basketball in both his junior and senior years. At UW-Whitewater Tom earned three letters in track and field as a javelin thrower. He went undefeated in conference competition for three consecutive years and was Wisconsin State University champion three years while setting two conference records. His 1966 mark of 221’6” is the current conference best. As a junior Tom was voted NAIA District 14 Most Valuable Track and Field Athlete as well as NAIA District 14 Best Javelin Thrower. Tom’s senior year produced his best throw of 230’5 ½”, a school record that is still unsurpassed at UW-Whitewater. Tom’s career first places numbered 27 and his total collegiate field, school, and meet records numbered 29. In addition, he competed in three NAIA National Championships. Tom concluded his collegiate career with a fourth place finish and was named NAIA District 14 Runner-up Most Valuable Track and Field Athlete and again NAIA District 14 Best Javelin Thrower. While on campus, Tom was a member of Beta Beta Beta, Biology Honor Society, and the Whitewater W Club. He graduated from UW-Whitewater in 1967 with a Bachelor of Science Degree. He served in the United States Navy for five years as an air traffic controller. Tom is a Regional Sales Manager for Media of Wisconsin, a distributor of hospital/surgical products. He coaches girls youth basketball and is an avid bass fisherman. Tom and his wife, Gina, have two children, Jason and Kristin, and reside in Oregon, Wisconsin. Elected into the Hall of Fame in 1988.
