Jim graduated from Greenfield High School in 1963, where he received 12 letters in football, basketball, track and baseball.  He was selected back of the year in 1962 and 1963 and All-Conference three years in football and two years in basketball.  He was also voted as both captain and MVP in each of three sports.  While attending UW-Whitewater, he earned four letters in football and set several school records.  As a running back for the Warhawks he was All-Conference and District 14 for four years and was honorable mention NAIA All-American and MVP in 1966.  In 1968-1971 he played semi-pro football for the Delavan Red Devils and was voted MVP of CSFL in 1970.  In 1967 he helped coach the UW-Whitewater freshmen football team to an undefeated season.  After graduation he taught and coached in Jefferson.  As a track coach he worked with sprinters and hurdlers and sent several to state.  While being head football coach, his teams won two Badger Conference championships and he was voted Badger Conference Coach of the Year in 1975.  He was also selected as a coach of the south team in the first Wisconsin Shrine All-Star Football Game.  In 1980 he left teaching to take a management position for Jefferson Meats, Stoppenbach's, Inc.  Jim and his wife, Bonnie, have three daughters, Amy, Sarah, and Susie.
