A senior at Beloit in 1926 when he won the high school singles tennis championship, “Joe” went on to become a four-year letterman in the sport at Whitewater from 1928-32. He and his brother, Phillip, won the State Teachers College doubles crown in 1930 and ’31. He was state singles champion in 1930. Also on the basketball squad for three years, Joe later served as president of the Whitewater Lions Club, Chamber of Commerce, and Whitewater Chapter, National Alumni Association. He was a director of the Whitewater State University Foundation, and has been a Whitewater merchant since 1933. Elected Hall of Fame 1968.
