Garry and Larry Grimes – The Grimes Twins – were two of the best to represent UW-Whitewater on the hardwood in Warhawk history. The pair of forwards were members of the Warhawk men's basketball team from 1971-75. The dynamic duo led UW-Whitewater to the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) District 14 title games three times and to a pair of conference championships in 1973 and 1974. The Grimes Twins were captains and the team's most valuable players in 1975. Garry was a two-time First Team NAIA District 14 selection (1972, 1975) and four-time all-conference pick. Larry was named First Team NAIA District 14 in 1975 and was also a four-time all-league selection. The pair wrote their names in the conference record book in both scoring and rebounding each season they competed. In UW-Whitewater's career record book, Garry still holds the record in rebounds (971) after 50 years. He is also among the top ten in rebounds per game (9.4), field goals made (554) and scoring (1302 points). At the end of his career, Garry held the conference rebounding record – a mark that ranked ninth in 2025. Larry is third in career rebounds (877) and holds top ten marks in field goals made (622), rebounds per game (8.5) and scoring (1366 points). The Grimes Twins are from Indianapolis, Indiana and are products of Crispus Attucks High School. Garry passed away in 2015.
