Christine Bigonia, a 1979 UW-Whitewater graduate, helped the 1976-77 basketball team win the Wisconsin Women's Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship. She lettered four times in basketball and volleyball and once in track. In volleyball, she was the team captain in 1978, while serving as a basketball team captain in 1977-78 and 1978-79. She was also the Sportswoman of the Year in 1978. While a student at Brown Deer (WI) High School, Bigonia was named Sportswoman of the Year as a senior after earning conference championships in track and badminton. She lettered four years in volleyball, badminton and track and three years in basketball. She helped Brown Deer to Conference and Regional championships in volleyball in 1973 and 1974. Bigonia has since become a mainstay in the state coaching arena. She coaches volleyball, basketball and softball at Williams Bay High School, with 34 years of experience between the three sports. She has led Williams Bay to four conference championships in 12 years and won regional championships in 1992 and 1993, while leading the softball team to a regional championship in 1988. She was also named volleyball coach of the year three times in her tenure. In addition to her coaching, Bigonia has served as a physical education instructor in the Williams Bay School District since 1980 and has helped direct the UW-Whitewater Volleyball camps since 1987. She currently serves on the Human Growth and Development Advisory Council and is head of the Physical Education and Health Department at Williams Bay Public Schools. She also is on the W-Club Board of Directors at UW-Whitewater.
