Highly successful Sheboygan coach Carl W. Huebner was a graduate of Whitewater in 1932, following a career marked by athletic and scholastic achievement.  Huebner has been in the Sheboygan school system for the past thirty years, serving as basketball coach for twenty-nine years.  Due to name change only, Huebner has been coach at Sheboygan, Sheboygan Central and Sheboygan South high schools.  A native of Watertown, Huebner graduated from high school in 1927 and then attended Whitewater.  During his college career, he was a member of the football squad for four years and a member of the basketball unit for three years.  He was named to the all-conference basketball team in 1931.  In addition to his sports activities Huebner was on the staff of the Minnieska (the college yearbook), the Royal Purple (the student newspaper), served as president of Phi Chi Epsilon social fraternity and was president of the junior class.  He received early experience in coaching as the mentor of the College High Five in 1930-31 and 1931-32.  An honor student in college, Huebner was a member of Pi Omega Pi, the national business education scholastic fraternity.  Following his graduation from college, Huebner joined the faculty of South Milwaukee high school, where he served as assistant football coach and as a business education instructor.  In 1935 he moved to Sheboygan, where he assumed the duties of head basketball coach and also taught in the business education field.  In addition to his school work, he served as an office manager of the Central Wisconsin Canneries at Rosendale from 1940-45 in the summer months and as Ticket Sales manager of the Sheboygan Indians baseball team during the summer moths of 1946-51.  After twenty-seven successful seasons, Huebner was named "Coach of the Year" in the Fox River Valley conference.  He continued to coach for two years following the award.  During his coaching career, Huebner was able to guide his teams to the State Tournament at Madison in 1953 to second place; in 1959 as the consolation runner-up; and in 1962 to fourth place.  During the first twenty-seven years of coaching, Huebner was able to amass a record of 227 wins, against 145 losses.  His record shows seven championships in the Fox River Valley, and six second place finishes.  His teams finished in the first division twenty of the first twenty-seven years.  Coach Huebner is a member of the National Education Association, the Wisconsin Education Association, the Sheboygan Education Association, Northeaster Education Association, Wisconsin Business Education Teachers Association, the Wisconsin Coaches Association, the Whitewater Alumni Association and the Sheboygan Coaches Association.  He is a member of the Riverdale Country Club of Sheboygan and has served as treasurer of the United Lutheran Church of Sheboygan for the past twenty-one years.  Huebner is married and the father of two sons, Lee and John.  Lee is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Northwestern University and now a Ph. D. candidates at Harvard.  John is in the accelerated six-year program at the Northwestern University Medical School.
