Bruce graduated from New Lisbon High School in 1954 where he earned four letters in baseball, four in basketball, and two in football.  He was selected all-conference in football in 1954, all-conference in basketball in 1953 and 1954, and was also chosen the most valuable basketball player in the Scenic Conference in 1954.  Bruce was selected as the outstanding senior student and as the school's best all-around athlete in 1954.  While attending UW-Whitewater, he earned four letters in both basketball and tennis.  In his sophomore year, he and Dell Olson won the Wisconsin State Doubles Championship with Whitewater tying for first place in the State Conference Tournament.  In basketball he was captain his senior year and ranks high on the all-time scoring list.  He graduated from UW-Whitewater in 1958 and received his Masters Degree in 1968.  He has coached football, basketball, baseball, track, tennis and golf at Marshall, Iowa-Grant, and Viroqua High Schools.  He retired from coaching after his Viroqua basketball teams won consecutive SWAL Conference titles in 1971 and 1972.  Bruce and his wife Judy presently live in Viroqua with their daughters Jody, Jayne and Lisa, and he is teaching history at Viroqua Senior High School.  He is currently the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the United Methodist Church and also serves on the Finance Committee and Administrative Board.
