Neil Hansen was a versatile member of Whitewater’s back-to-back conference football championship teams in 1966 and 1967.  Hansen saw action as a receiver, at defensive back, as a placekicker and punter.  He also saw limited time as a quarterback and kick returner.   A four year letterwinner, Hansen intercepted four passes as a sophomore and three more as a junior.  On the other side of the ball, he caught 12 passes for three touchdowns while playing both ways his junior year, and increased that to 31 for 518 yards and six TD’s as a senior.  He also handled the team’s placekicking chores in 1966, 1967 and 1968, ending his career with school records for extra points made and attempted, and field goals made and attempted.  His career punting average (38.3), where also pitched in when needed, was also the best in school history when he hung up his jersey.  He was the WSUC scoring champion in 1966, when he helped Whitewater advance to the championship game of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics championship game.  On October 21, 1967 at UW-Eau Claire, he set the UW-W record for points scored in a game, totaling 25 on two receiving TD’s, an interception return, a field goal and two extra points.  Hansen earned all-WSUC honors in both 1966 and 1967, as well as NAIA All-District 14 recognition.  The football team went 7-2-1, 10-1, 8-1 and 6-3-1 in his four years as a starter. After graduation Hansen played semi-pro football with the Delavan Red Devils.  A 1964 Milwaukee Custer High School graduate where he played four sports, Hansen received his bachelor of business administration degree from UW-W in 1998.  A resident of Westminster, California, Hansen owns Hansen Transportation.
