Athletics Hall of Fame
Wally Zastrow is the recipient of the Hall of Fame's Distinguished Service Award, granted to persons who have significantly contributed to the success of the athletic programs at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. He is the seventh person to be recognized with this honor. Zastrow served UW-Whitewater for twenty years prior to retiring in 1985. He was the school's first director of alumni relations, and served as the executive director of the UW-W Foundation. His job title evolved into the director of university relations. During his tenure the Foundation raise over four million dollars, and he played a leading role in the campaign to build and finance Warhawk Stadium. Zastrow was involved in the stadium project throughout all the phases, for a total of six years. When he first came to Whitewater his assignment included teaching on course in the College of Business and Economics, and he had a hand in building the school business manager's program. Prior to coming to work at UW-W Zastrow was the business manager of the Waukesha public school system. He also taught in Fort Atkinson for two years and at Whitefish Bay High School for five. He served on the UW-W alumni association board of directors from 1948-1954, and was president during the 1951-52 school year. Zastrow, a 1943 graduate of the UW-W business education department and former Warhawk athlete, also received a master's degree from Iowa State University.
