Getting To Know The Warhawks – Shelby Nickels, Women’s Track and Field

Shelby Nickels (Manitowoc, Wis./Lincoln) of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's track and field team is featured in the latest edition of Getting To Know The Warhawks Presented by UW Credit Union.
 
In 2020, Nickels was the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference champion and an All-American in the long jump. She recorded a season-best distance of 18-06.00 (5.64 meters) to claim her first-ever individual conference title. Nickels qualified in the event for the 2020 NCAA Indoor Championships, but the meet was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
 
Nickels also garnered first team College Sports Information Directors of America Academic All-District® accolades last season. She was selected as the team's Junior of the Year and Most Valuable Performer, and was the co-winner of the team's GPA of the Year award for the third straight year.
 
As a sophomore in 2019, Nickels reached the NCAA Indoor Championships in the long jump with a personal record mark of 18-09.25 (5.72 meters). She placed 12th in the event at the national meet. Nickels placed among the top seven in the long jump at both the indoor and outdoor conference meets, and earned the team's Indoor Season Performer of the Year and Co-Sophomore of the Year awards.
 
In 2018, Nickels reached the conference podium in the long jump at both WIAC meets, and was named the team's Co-Freshman of the Year.
 
A three-time USTFCCCA All-Academic honoree and three-year member of the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll, Nickels is majoring in accounting and finance.
