Tommy Matoska (Pleasant Prairie, Wis./Kenosha Tremper) of the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater football team is featured in the latest edition of Getting To Know The Warhawks Presented by UW Credit Union.
Matoska helped the Warhawks earn the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship for the 37th time in program history and finish as national runner-up after the team's 10th appearance in the Stagg Bowl (NCAA Division III national championship game) in 2019.
A starter in the defensive secondary, Matoska recorded 46 tackles, five passes defended and one fumble recovery in 14 games last fall. He tallied a season-high seven tackles in UW-Whitewater's 35-32 victory over St. John's (Minn.) in the national semifinals.
As a sophomore in 2018, Matoska played in 13 games, collecting 10 tackles, including one sack. He returned an interception 22 yards for a touchdown in the team's win over Middle Georgia State.
Matoska was also a member of the 2017 team, which finished with a 7-3 record, including a 6-1 mark in the WIAC.
A 2017-18 member of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Scholastic Honor Roll, Matoska is majoring in criminology.
