The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's tennis team completed singles play Saturday on the second day of the two-day Warhawk Fall Invitational at Wangerin Courts.
The Warhawks posted a pair of top-three finishes against competition from Division II and NAIA scholarship programs.
Sophomore
Brendan Pietila (Sussex, Wis./Arrowhead) placed second in the fourth flight, defeating St. Francis and Cardinal Stritch before falling in a third-set super tiebreaker against Ferris State.
Freshman
Danila Borovykh (Ryazan, Russia/Boca Prep International School (Fla.)) placed third at No. 5 singles. He defeated Ferris State, lost to Cardinal Stritch and defeated teammate
Noah Guillermo (Muskego, Wis./Marquette University HS) in the third-place match.
Other UW-Whitewater placers included sophomore
Alex Gray (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville), who placed seventh at No. 1 singles, sophomore
Ryan Mitchell (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East), who finished sixth at No. 2 singles, senior
Zach Wood (Downers Grove, Ill./South), who was sixth at No. 3, junior
Robert Rider (Annapolis, Md./South River), who placed sixth at No. 6, and sophomore
Parker Hearne (Roscoe, Ill./Hononegah), who finished seventh at No. 6.
The Warhawks continue their fall season Sept. 27-30 at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Midwest Regional Championships in St. Peter, Minn.
