VanDonslear Concludes Play in ITA Cup

Luke VanDonselar represented the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's tennis team at the 2023 ITA Cup in Rome, Georgia this weekend. He concluded competition Saturday afternoon. 

The senior fell to Matthew Michibata of The College of New Jersey 6-1, 6-3 in his final match of the tournament. 

This was the second consecutive year VanDonslear qualified for the ITA Cup, formerly known as Small College Nationals. Last season, he paired with teammate John Zakowski (Green Bay, Wis./Southwest) in doubles competition. This season, VanDonslear punched his ticket to the cup with a runner-up finish at the ITA Regional hosted by Gustavus Adolphus at the end of September. 

Friday Recap
Luke VanDonslear (Marion, Iowa/Linn Mar) continued play in the ITA Cup in Rome, Georgia Friday. The senior fell in the backdraw and will return to the court Saturday for his final match of the tournament.

VanDonslear dropped his lone match Friday to Caleb Wilkins of Chapman University 6-1, 6-4. He will face Matthew Michibata of The College of New Jersey Saturday at 1 pm.

Thursday Recap
Luke VanDonslear (Marion, Iowa/Linn Mar) opened play in the ITA Cup in Rome, Georgia Thursday. The senior dropped his opening round match but will return to the court Friday at 11 a.m. 

VanDonslear fell to Emil Grantcharov of the University of Chicago 6-3, 6-4 in the round of 16 Thursday. The senior will return to the courts for an 11 a.m. match Friday morning to face Chapman's Caleb Wilkins.

VanDonslear punched his ticket to the ITA Cup by finishing as the runner-up at the ITA Regional Singles Championship hosted by Gustavus Adolphus College at the end of September. This is the second straight year VanDonslear has represented UW-Whitewater at the ITA Cup after competing with former teammate John Zakowski (Green Bay, Wis./Southwest) in the doubles bracket a season ago. 

Formerly known as the Small College Nationals, the ITA Cup has a history dating back to 1986. The Division III Tournament is comprised of the champions and runners-up from eight regional sites and/or at-large selections.
