The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's tennis team earned its second consecutive New Jersey Athletic Conference West Division title Sunday with a 9-0 victory against SUNY Oneonta at Menard Tennis Center in Eau Claire.
With the win, the Warhawks (19-2 overall, 3-0 NJAC) advance to the NJAC Championship match, which will take place May 7 at 12 p.m. against East Division champion TCNJ at the Warhawk Outdoor Tennis Complex.
Brendan Pietila (Sussex, Wis./Arrowhead) and
Payton Adkisson (Lincolnshire, Ill./Stevenson) put UW-W on the board with an 8-0 triumph at No. 3 doubles.
Ryan Mitchell (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) and
Niclas Goltz (Freiburg, Germany/Droste-Hülshoff-Gymnasium) posted an 8-2 victory at No. 2 and
Alex Gray (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) and
John Zakowski (Green Bay, Wis./Southwest) wrapped up the doubles sweep with an 8-2 win at No. 1.
Rory Calabria (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) picked up the first singles point for the Warhawks when his opponent retired following the opening set. Zakowski clinched the dual with a 6-1, 6-0 triumph at the first position.
Ridley Aranda (Bayside, Wis./Nicolet) collected a 6-0, 6-0 victory at the sixth position and was followed by
Cole Lindwall (Cottage Grove, Wis./Monona Grove), who won by the same score at the second position.
Josh Guillermo (Muskego, Wis./Marquette University HS) was next to finish with a 6-2, 6-3 triumph at the fifth slot and Adkisson concluded the dual with a 6-2, 7-6 (6) victory at the fourth spot.
UW-Whitewater visits Kalamazoo (Mich.) to wrap up the regular season next Sunday, May 1, at 12 p.m.
