The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's tennis team tallied its first shutout of the 2021 season Saturday afternoon, defeating Millikin (Ill.) 9-0 in a dual at Lake Geneva Tennis.
Alex Gray (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) and
Ryan Mitchell (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) paired at No. 1 doubles for an 8-2 victory.
Cole Lindwall (Cottage Grove, Wis./Monona Grove) and
Noah Guillermo (Muskego, Wis./Marquette University HS) teamed up for an 8-5 triumph at No. 2, and
Parker Hearne (Roscoe, Ill./Hononegah) and
Ridley Aranda (Bayside, Wis./Nicolet) completed the doubles sweep with an 8-1 win at No. 3.
Brayden Kopp (Roselle, Ill./Bellbrook (Ohio)) was first on the board for the Warhawks (3-1) in singles, contributing a 6-0, 6-1 victory at the fourth position.
Noah Guillermo (Muskego, Wis./Marquette University HS) clinched the dual for UW-W with a 6-2, 6-0 triumph at the fifth position.
Mitchell and
Brendan Pietila (Sussex, Wis./Arrowhead) surrendered a combined three games at the second and third spots, respectively, to give UW-Whitewater a 7-0 advantage.
Gray and
Josh Guillermo (Muskego, Wis./Marquette University HS) completed the shutout. Gray posted a 6-4, 6-4 win at the No. 1 position, and Guillermo registered a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 6.
The Warhawks visit Augustana (Ill.) March 14 at 11:45 a.m. at Quad City Tennis Club in Moline, Ill.
