Men's Tennis Falls in Spring Trip Finale

The No. 38 ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's tennis squad concluded its spring trip Thursday morning in South Carolina.
 
The Warhawks (9-5) wrapped the trip with a close loss against Oberlin (Ohio) (5-8) by a slim 5-4 margin.
 
In doubles, the Warhawks fell behind 2-1 with only the third doubles pair of sophomore Robert Rider (Annapolis, Md./South River) and junior Zach Wood (Downers Grove, Ill./South) claiming a point, 8-6.
 
In singles, freshman Brendan Pietila (Sussex, Wis./Arrowhead) continued his strong spring trip with an impressive comeback victory in the fourth slot, 3-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-4).  Wood added on another point in the fifth slot 6-2, 6-2, but their opponents clinched the match shortly after. Freshman Alex Gray (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) earned a win in straight sets at No. 3 to account for the final margin.
 
The Warhawks will return home Saturday, April 6, to Wangerin Courts.  They host California-Santa Cruz at 3 p.m.
