Cross Country Announces 2017 Awards at Year-End Banquet

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's and women's cross country teams wrapped up their 2017 season Sunday night at the team's annual awards banquet.
 
Men
 
The Warhawk men finished fifth at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship, the program's highest finish since 2010. The team also placed ninth at the NCAA Midwest Regional Championship, also the program's best finish since 2010.
 
Senior Brett Harms (Whitewater, Wis./Whitewater) capped his standout four-year career with his third appearance at the NCAA Championships. He became the program's first three-time national qualifier since Gary Garcia (2003, 2004, 2005) and recorded his third career top 10 finish at the WIAC Championship, becoming only the second runner since 1970 to accomplish the feat. (Ryan Meissen – 1997, 1998, 1999)
 
Six runners ran sub 26-minute personal best times in the 8-kilometer race, the most since 1999:

The UW-Whitewater women placed eighth at the WIAC Championship and 14th at the NCAA Midwest Regional Championship, the program's best finish at the regional meet since 2012.
 
Junior Manda Slaback (Janesville, Wis./Parker) became the program's highest scoring fifth runner at the WIAC Championship since 2010, placing 53rd overall. Senior Ashley Paulick (Union Grove, Wis./Union Grove) posted the best performance of any 12th runner since 1993, finishing 75th.
