Related Links:Box ScoreFollow Warhawk Tennis on Twitter The No. 16 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's tennis team recovered from a 2-1 deficit after doubles play Tuesday morning to defeat Oberlin (Ohio) 6-3 in a non-conference dual match at Van Der Meer Tennis Center in Hilton Head, S.C.
The Warhawks (13-4 overall) won four of six singles contests to earn the victory over Oberlin, which is ranked 12th in the Central Region by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
Trailing 2-0 after completion of the first two doubles matches, seniors
Jake Humphreys (Kenosha/Tremper) and
Michael Treis (Brookfield, Wis./Brookfield Central) combined for a 9-7 triumph at the No. 1 slot to cut UW-Whitewater's deficit to one heading into singles play.
The Warhawks claimed the first two singles points. Treis registered a 6-1, 6-1 victory at the top position, and senior
Matt Bisbee (Chicago, IL/Marist) gave the team the lead with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 5.
Senior
Michael Schnarr (Madison/Memorial) tacked on another point with a 6-2, 6-0 triumph at the No. 6 spot, and junior
Rithwik Rajshekhar Raman (Chennai, Tamil Nadu-India/SAIDS British Education) tallied a 6-2, 7-5 victory at No. 2 to give UW-Whitewater the decisive fifth point.
Sophomore
Zane Navratil (Racine, Wis./The Prairie School) accounted for the Warhawks' final point with a 6-3, 0-6, 1-0 (10-7) win in the fourth flight.
UW-Whitewater returns to action Wednesday at 8 a.m. Central Time to face No. 34 DePauw (Ind.). The two teams are ranked sixth and seventh, respectively, in the region by the ITA.
