The No. 27 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's tennis team earned a solid win over a regionally ranked opponent Sunday, knocking off Kalamazoo (Mich.) 8-1 in a dual match at Wangerin Courts.

The Warhawks (15-5 overall) swept all three doubles matches and claimed the first two points in singles to take down the Hornets (9-5), who are ranked 10th in the Central Region by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.

UW-Whitewater, currently slotted sixth in the region by the ITA, jumped out to a 3-0 advantage thanks to strong tandem play. Junior captain Michael Schnarr (Madison/Memorial) and sophomore Rithwik Rajshekhar Raman (Chennai, Tamil Nadu-India/SAIDS British Education) put the Warhawks on the board with an 8-3 triumph at the No. 3 slot.

Juniors Jake Humphreys (Kenosha/Tremper) and Michael Treis (Brookfield, Wis./Brookfield Central) were next to finish, recording an 8-2 victory at the first position. Senior captain Cam Laktash (Crystal Lake, IL/South) and sophomore Scott Butler (Eagan, MN/Eagan) capped the doubles sweep, taking the last two games of the proset at No. 2 for a 9-7 win.

Laktash and freshman Zane Navratil (Racine, Wis./The Prairie School) picked up the first two singles points to clinch the match for UW-Whitewater. Laktash posted a 6-2, 6-4 triumph at the fifth spot, while Navratil registered a 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 3.

At No. 1, Humphreys, who is ranked third in the region by the ITA, defeated Branden Metzler, the region's No. 12 player, by a 6-3, 6-2 count. Raman was also a winner in straight sets, posting a 7-5, 6-3 triumph at the fourth slot.

Treis needed a second-set tiebreaker, but registered a 6-3, 7-6 (5) victory at the second position.

The Warhawks continue action Saturday and Sunday in St. Louis, Mo., with matches against three opponents ranked among the nation's top 20. UW-Whitewater takes on No. 20 Texas-Tyler and fifth-ranked Washington-St. Louis at 9 a.m. and 2 p.m., respectively, on Saturday.
