Related Links:Final ResultsDay 1 Recap DELAVAN, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater golf team recorded an impressive performance over the weekend to finish second Saturday at the two-day, 13-team UW-Whitewater Spring Fling at Delbrook Golf Club.
The Warhawks totaled 337 strokes in the final round to finish second with a two-day score of 664 (327-337), three strokes ahead of third-place Viterbo. Lewis (Ill.) won the tournament with a team score of 624.
Senior
Sammie Leibham (Sheboygan/North) garnered All-Tournament team accolades with a second-place finish out of 70 players. She fired a 79 Saturday for a 36-hole tally of 152 to beat the two-round school record, which was previously a 154 set by Emily Kuiper in 2007. Leibham broke the 18-hole school record Friday with a 73.
Senior
Kate Winkler (Kewaskum/Kewaskum) and sophomore
Kayla Asleson (Kenosha/Tremper) tied for 12th with identical scores of 167. Winkler carded an 84 Saturday in her final round as a Warhawk, while Asleson improved her first-round score by one stroke with an 83.
Sophomore
Stephanie Stair (Milton, Wis./Milton) placed 26th with a 178 (87-91), while senior
Sarah Bregant (Sussex/Hamilton) registered a 185 (88-97) to finish tied for 36th.
UW-Whitewater's "B" team finished ninth overall with a 753 (369-384). Junior
Taylor Genter (Sun Prairie/Sun Prairie) led the "B" team with a 179 (80-99), good for a tie for 27th overall. Senior
Vivian Shoemaker (San Jacinto, CA/San Jacinto) was 38th with a 187 (90-97).
Freshman
Hayley Jefferson (Carol Stream, Ill./Glenbard North) improved by eight strokes in the second round to finish with a 192 (100-92), good for 46th overall. Sophomore
Katie Kelly (Geneva, IL/Geneva) tied for 48th with a 196 (100-96).
Freshman
Jess Gruber (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls) recorded a 202 (99-103) to finish 56th.
Freshman
Callie Edwards (Verona, Wis./Verona Area) led the Warhawks' individuals with a 185 (86-99) to tie for 36th. Kayla Kinney was 42nd with a 189 (92-97).
Junior Liz Semman placed 64th with a 222 (115-107), and freshman
Katie Melanouris (Spring Grove, Ill./Richmond) carded a 242 (120-122) to finish 67th.
The UW-Whitewater Spring Fling concluded varsity competition for the year, but several of the Warhawks' reserves will compete next Saturday (12 p.m.) and Sunday (9 a.m.) at the Augustana (Ill.) Invitational at Highland Springs Golf Course in Rock Island, Ill.
