Warhawks Host High-Powered Fall Invite in Madison

Madison, Wis. -- The UW-Whitewater women's golf program hosted their annual Fall Invitational at TPC-Wisconsin in Madison Sunday and Monday. The high-powered invitational featured 16 teams including six that are ranked or receiving votes in the latest national poll. 

Payton Schmidt (Jefferson, Wis./Jefferson) led one Warhawk squad to a tie for 10th with a total of 166 to finish 26th individually in a field of nearly 100 golfers. Delainey Halverson (Oregon, Wis./Oregon) cut five strokes off of her round one score to finish with a 171. Emily Akers (Schaumburg, Ill./Schaumburg) was one stroke back with a 172 after shaving six strokes off of her round one score on Monday. Abbie Reiser (Washington, Ill./Washington Community) added a 173 while Kellie Shanahan (Wauconda, Ill./Mundelein) wrapped up the group with a 184. 

The second UW-Whitewater combination was led by Jessica Velent (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Adlai E. Stevenson) and Norah Berken (Kaukauna, Wis./Kaukauna). The duo each recorded a two-day total of 169 with identical rounds of 86 and 83. Megan Honn (LaFayette, Ind./Jefferson) added a 173 for the weekend. Breezy Roman (Fort Atkinson, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) had the biggest improvement between rounds carding an 84 on day two - eight strokes better than round one - for a 176. Natalie Kammer (Fort Atkinson, Wis./Fort Atkinson) rounded out the squad with a 187. 

Competing as individuals at the invite, Elizabeth Vanderhei (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago) recorded a 177 while Alexa Reed (Pewaukee, Wis./Arrowhead) posted a 183. 

The Warhawks will head to Reedsburg later this week for the WIAC Championship. Round one at the Reedsburg Country Club is set for an 11 AM shotgun start on Friday. Rounds two and three (Saturday and Sunday) will begin at 8:30 AM in a split tee format.

Madison, Wis. -- The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's golf team opened competition in their fall invitational held at TPC-Wisconsin Sunday afternoon. 

The UW-Whitewater was represented by two squads and two Warhawks competing as individuals in the first round Sunday. One UWW squad is tied for 11th while the other shares 13th heading into round two on Monday. 

Payton Schmidt (Jefferson, Wis./Jefferson) paced the top Warhawk squad with an 82 in round one. Abbie Reiser (Washington, Ill./Washington Community) and Delainey Halverson (Oregon, Wis./Oregon) each registered a round of 88. Emily Akers (Schaumburg, Ill./Schaumburg) came in with an 89 and Kellie Shanahan (Wauconda, Ill./Mundelein) wrapped up the fivesome with a 95. 

The second UW-Whitewater combination was led by Jessica Velent (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Adlai E. Stevenson) and Norah Berken (Kaukauna, Wis./Kaukauna) with rounds of 86. Megan Honn (LaFayette, Ind./Jefferson) was a stroke back with an 87. Breezy Roman (Fort Atkinson, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) (92) and Natalie Kammer (Fort Atkinson, Wis./Fort Atkinson) (93) rounded out the group. 

Competing as individuals, Elizabeth Vanderhei (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago) carded an 89 and Alexa Reed (Pewaukee, Wis./Arrowhead) totaled 91. 

The tournament will conclude after a final round of 18 Monday.
